With Patch 3.3, three new five man dungeons are available. These are Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron, and Halls of Reflection. With these new dungeons come a few new achievements, both for completing the dungeons as well as a few extra for special conditions during heroic boss fights.

In Forge of Souls, there are achievements for completing the normal and heroic difficulties of the instance, which requires defeating Bronjahm and the Devourer of Souls. The special achievement for Bronjahm is Soul Power, which requires your group to defeat him on heroic while there’s still 4 Corrupted Soul Fragments alive. To do this, you will have to wait until Bronjahm casts Corrupt Soul four times in order to produce four soul fragments. However, while doing this, you must also kite the boss and try to CC the fragments, as he has an ability to consume soul fragments. Also make sure not do be doing too much AoE attacks, as the fragments do not have a whole lot of health.

The second achievement is on the other boss in the instance, and it is called Three Faced. Devourer of Souls will cast Phantom Blast occasionally, though probably quite a few times during the fight. In order to get this achievement, you must interrupt all of these casts, very similar to Less-rabi in Gundrak.

The Pit of Saron (normal | heroic) contains three bosses, two of which have their own achievements. Forgemaster Garfrost has the achievement Doesn’t Go to Eleven, which requires you to defeat him without allowing anyone to have more than 10 stacks of the Permafrost debuff. In order to do this, you must go out of line of sight by going behind the saronite boulders that he throws occasionally, and for the tank to do this when he gets to 66% and 33% at which points he runs to a forge and switches weapons.

The other achievement in this instance involves the cave run before the fight against Scourgelord Tyrannus. Don’t Look Up is fairly easy to obtain as long as your group is aware of the circles on the ground and doesn’t stand in them until after the icicle hits the ground. You can do this simply by watching out for them as you fight through the cave, or by pulling the entire cave to the end and burning them down there, as the icicles do not drop near that end area.

Finally, in the Halls of Reflection (normal | heroic), there is an achievement called We’re Not Retreating; We’re Advancing in a Different Direction for escaping from the Lich King in under 6 minutes. This refers to the guantlet event after defeating Falric and Marwyn, in which there are three ice barriers that you have to run to and then defeat the adds that the Lich King spawns. Do this quickly enough and you’ll have another shiny new achievement.

And that wraps up the achievement list for the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons. Work continues on our tour of the General tab, and I intend to also cover some of the achievements to be had in the new raid instance as well. Happy hunting and I’ll see you again soon!

Patch 3.3’s release date is speculated to be this Tuesday all over the various WoW-related blogs and websites, and with it come some changes to certain achievements. Some achievements are being removed, and some meta-achievements’ requirements are being changed slightly. In order to make sure you have an opportunity to get those achievements before they go away, we’ll be talking about them today for a moment.

First off, the daily dungeon and daily heroic dungeon quests are being removed, and will be replaced by a weekly raid quest instead. Because of this, the achievements for completing all of the quests offered by these two NPCs will become Feats of Strength. These two quests are Timear Foresees and Proof of Demise, so here’s to hoping you see those last quests pop up for the daily sometime soon!

Next, the achievement The Party’s Over is being completely removed from the achievements list, and as a result, is being removed from the Glory of the Hero meta-achievement, as you can see from the hover-over tooltip from Wowhead’s PTR site.

For those of you who love to do battlegrounds, the achievements to become exalted with the faction-specific Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, and Alterac Valley factions are being removed from the meta-achievements for their battlegrounds. Instead of being requirements, they will now grant titles for those players who get to exalted.

And for our last changes today, patch 3.3 introduces a new fishing contest, in the form of the Kalu’ak Fishing Derby. This is an event that will take place Wednesday evenings Saturdays at 2PM, and is being added as another option to completing the Booty Bay Fishing Contest for completing the Master Angler of Stranglethorn, making the achievement to be Master Angler of Azeroth come 3.3. So for those of you who have gotten 38 or so tastyfish only to see that a winner has been announced, perhaps this will make getting your Salty title a bit easier.

Best of luck on getting those achievements before time runs out!

Update: Patch 3.3 is now out, therefore these changes have already gone into effect.

Ah, the General tab. This is where achievements are stuck when there’s really no other good place to put them. In here, you will find a slew of random, unrelated achievements, all begging to be completed. The General tab will be split into at least two posts, while I try to figure out how often I wish to publish posts and the rate at which I wish to go through the achievements in general. Bear with me here as I get into my groove and me love you long time.

We’ll start off with some of the easier achievements, which, unfortunately for some of you, you probably already have. But fear not! For we will get to the harder achievements as this blog progresses. We’ll get through this together, all in due time.

Our first today is the various level achievements. There are achievements for reaching levels 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80. While these may be somewhat time-intensive for a new player, they will eventually be reached through normal leveling means.

I’d like to take a moment here to mention that I had originally intended to include Represent in today’s post, but later decided to include it in a later post, in which I will also discuss the Ten and Twenty-Five Tabards achievements. Again, I’m still working on figuring out how all of this is going to go, and thus far I’ve developed a plan for which achievements will be in which posts, and this plan has been completed through the General tab, and I am working on my plan for the Quests tab next.

Back to achievements then. Another easy one is Going Down?, which requires you to fall from a height of 65 yards without dying. This seems like it can be tricky at first, but once you know a good spot to fall from, it’s just a matter of walking off that ledge. There are several highly-utilized locations around Azeroth, and a prime spot in Outland. Additionally, if you’re not exactly sure you’re going to make the fall without dying, various abilities can help. For instance, mages can jump and use Ice Block, paladins can use Divine Shield, and rogues and druids both have passive abilities to reduce fall damage (for druids it’s while in Cat Form), and there are other abilities different classes can use. Note that fall damage is a percentage of your health, rather than a set amount, so piling on heaps of stamina won’t help you survive that fall any better than a newly created level 1 character.

Check out the following screenshots for detailed methods of jumping:
Shattrath
The Exodar

I personally obtained this achievement by accident while in The Exodar, by jumping off exactly the way described in the above screenshot. I’d suggest doing this achievement without wearing gear that has durability, as it may take more than one attempt.

We’ve still got a few more to go for today, so let’s keep on going! Next up is Shave and a Haircut – simply head to Stormwind or Ironforge for the Alliance, Orgrimmar or Undercity for the Horde, or Dalaran or Area 52 in Netherstorm for either factions, find the barbershop, and have them change something about the way your character looks. The cost ranges based on your level, with level 1 characters receiving free customization and level 80 characters can get the cheapest customization for around 2-3 gold.

Today unfortunately seems to be the spend-gold-to-get-an-achievement day, though much less so than what I have planned for the next post. Actually, everything for next time will cost you money. And a lot of it. But don’t worry about that just yet, today is significantly less expensive. Our next achievement will have you headed to the bank, because it’s Safe Deposit. All you have to do for this one is have 111 gold and 10 silver. Just head on over to the bank teller, and purchase all 7 available extra bank slots, you don’t have to fill them with bags or anything for this achievement.

Our next two for today go hand-in-hand, well somewhat at least. Greedy and Needy will have you hoping for that 100 on blues and epics in regular level 80 Wrath dungeons and higher, to include heroics and raids, though you’d probably have trouble finding a raid using the group loot system. You’ll probably have a better shot at these achievements with a group of friends running heroics, so that you can roll need if you don’t have Needy without anyone else in the group pitching a fit because you won something they wanted, even though now Bind on Pickup items can be traded in instances.

Today’s final achievement will be the most expensive of those discussed so far, but again it pales in comparison to next time’s achievements. Seriously, you’re going to need a lot of gold for the next post. Anyway, I’m talking about Dual Talent Specialization of course! Once you’ve reached level 40 and have 1,000 gold, you can head to your class trainer and purchase this from them. Having this will allow you to have two different talent specializations, allowing you to easily switch between them so long as you’re outside of combat. This is very handy for any class, as it allows hybrids to switch between two different roles, pures to have a PvE and a PvP spec, etc. It may seem expensive, but the convenience of it alone is worth the gold.

And with that, we’re done for today! I plan on publishing new posts most likely on Saturday and another on Tuesday or Wednesday. This will give me some time to do my research and writing during the week and over the weekend, and will give all of you some time between having to read all of this. I suspect some of these upcoming articles will be considerably longer than today’s, but hopefully I’ll be able to make them informative and entertaining enough to keep you coming back! Feel free to leave a comment if you liked/hated it, I’d be happy to hear from anyone reading. Thanks again, and I’ll see you sometime in the middle of next week.

Hello, and welcome to Achievement Pointers! My name is Bryan Burr, and my hope with Achievement Pointers is to help out World of Warcraft players on their quest to obtain achievement points.

First, a bit about me and my character in WoW… I have been playing WoW only for 6 months or so now, but I have enjoyed working on achievements among all of the raiding, questing, and alt-leveling, and so I wish to help others acquire more and more points. My main is Blueblue on US-Zul’jin-A (WoWArmory Profile), a Draenei mage who I raid with and get achievement points on, of course.

I may not seem exactly qualified for such a topic, as I don’t have an abundance of achievement points nor have I been playing all that long, but I do intend to aggregate strategies for achievements, look up information about those that I don’t know about, and try to provide some insight to players of all ranges of achievement points. Except, of course, if you already have them all.

So stick around, and see what this journey has in store for you. Hopefully my Achievement Pointers will be helpful to quite a few of you!
